The Mediterranean island of Malta provided a rich backdrop for this film of international intrigue.  The cast featured actors from the United States,
Russia, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Japan and crew members from 17 different countries.  Mediterranean Film Studios served as the base of operations, providing sets, model-making which
included a two-thirds scale U.S. F-111 fighter aircraft filmed underwater in ocean tanks and underwater seascapes off the coast.  Additional photography was done in Rome and Los Angeles.
"Black Eagle" received regional theatrical distribution through United Artists, which was followed by a spectacular home entertainment release
that returned six million dollars, twice the cost of production from this pay window alone. International sales were very strong for this film and it continues good television and cable runs world-wide.
