The film is a mixing of genres in a post apocalyptic setting in the year 2027, combining science fiction and hard action, which created a winning combination with audiences. The story centers on a world of humans vs. cyborgs for dominion over natural resources.  The ""who is who" and "who is what" aspects of the story create some interesting twists and turns.
The picture was shot in L.A. and on the big island of Hawaii.  The incredible cinematography is by George Mooradian and "the films underlying mood of melancholy is
expressed perfectly by Michel Rubini's keening, almost wailing score."  According to critic Kevin Thomas writing in the L.A. Times.

Produced  for  a  modest  budget  the  U.S. domestic home entertainment sales alone yielded over seven million dollars.
